Clearasil may cause confidence
2 bits of our work in one day. It’s no wonder the production teams are looking as if they’re about to keel over. This is a new section within the larger Clearasil site used to support a TV campaign from across the pond.Posted January 25, 2008 4:37 pm by Alex Horner 0 Comments

Elf Yourself 2007: The results are in
And they’re even more impressive than you’d expect. In the 6 weeks it was live, the site garnered a thoroughly impressive 193 million visits. Users spent a combined average of 2600 years on the site and created 123 million elves – that’s 60 elves per second. The agency who created it have the following golden rules: 1)Keep it simple, 2) Make it personal and 3) Give people a reason to pass it on. We’d be inclined to agree with them. Now what we want to know is what effect it had on sales.Posted January 21, 2008 6:11 pm by Alex Horner 0 Comments

Mahalo: the future of search?
We’ve all known social search was scheduled to hit sometime soon so it’s a bit of a surprise that more of a fuss wasn’t made about Mahalo which apparently launched some time last year. The site works a lot like a cross between Google and Wikipedia. So let’s say you search for an iPhone. Instead of just giving us normal search results, Mahalo tells us a few facts about the product, where it’s available to buy, recent iPhone related news and blog discussion, reviews, photos, videos, links to support, tips, competitors and the opportunity to discuss the device or send the page to a friend (via email or major social networks/bookmarking tool). That’s a whole lot of content.Posted January 11, 2008 6:24 pm by Alex Horner 1 Comment

Is the web getting slower?
The Economist put forward an interesting argument in their tech predictions for 2008: the internet will slow down. Our increased use of IM, online gaming, email, social networks and crucially, video sites such as YouTube means we’re eating up bandwidth at an incredible rate. But the biggest problem is our old favourite: spam, which now accounts for an incredible 90% of internet traffic. And moving forward our usage will only increase with the number of internet-equipped gadgets constantly on the rise and of course as the adoption of web TV gathers pace.Podcasting welcomes dynamic ads
New technology developed by Wizzard Media will soon allow advertisers to dynamically insert ads into podcasts. So instead of the usual static pre or post-roll we’ve become used to, ads can be inserted within breaks in the podcast itself and updated and changed as and when required. So let’s say you want to raise awareness of a gig. You can insert the ad after a song from a band appearing at the gig within a music-based podcast. Then after the gig is over, the ad will be replaced with something else, ensuring the advertiser gets the best possible value for money (after all there’s no point advertising a gig that’s already taken place) and the listener gets the most relevant information. Nice.Posted January 3, 2008 2:19 pm by Alex Horner 0 Comments
