ASOS launches fully stocked shop on Facebook

ASOS, the online women’s clothing store, is set to become one of the first retailers to make their entire range available within the social network. The application, to launch at the end of January, will be one of the first to allow people to buy directly from a brand without leaving Facebook.

Two in five Twitter posts made by mobile

Over 40% of all Twitter posts are made via a mobile phone, according to the company’s CEO Dick Costolo. This rise from 25% 12 months ago is seen largely down to the release of the official Twitter app across Apple, Android and Blackberry platforms.

Everything gets an app store

Oh, Apple. Look what you’ve done. Amazon had today announced that an app store is on its way for their Kindle e-reader device. Apps on phones made a whole lot of sense – sure, other mobile platforms had user-installable programs way before Apple’s iPhone. But the fact that you could easily download and install apps over the air and crucially, browse all the apps in one place meant things took off very quickly indeed.

Apple airs a user-created ad

18-year-old Nick Haley is something of an Apple fan. You see, he went to the trouble of creating an ad for the newly-released iPod touch for the sheer craic. What he probably wasn’t expecting was an email from Apple asking if their ad agency, TBWA could turn it into a properly produced version to air on TV and all over the internet. You can watch it here. Now what we really want to know is how much the young chap was paid for his efforts. What’s the going rate for a creative these days?

My Dad’s car is better than your Dad’s car

Back in my days of higher education we were always told that direct comparisons to competitor brands in ads were a dangerous idea. Your brand is likely to be cheapened and come across as cocky and if in fact what you’re offering isn’t actually any better than the brand being compared to, you’ll come off looking very silly indeed. Whether or not Mac is better than Vista is not the issue here though. The quality of your brand should speak for itself, especially in the case of one positioned at the premium end of the market. To build an entire campaign based around belittling your competitor would be foolish, right? Oh wait…
